DIY Boho Flower Nursery Mobile Baby

DIY Boho Flower Nursery Mobile

I see all of these awesome products online, like on Pinterest and Etsy, for baby and kids room. Most of the time I think, I can make that.

When I found out I was pregnant for the second time I had a long list of projects I wanted to do. I made some things for my older daughter when I was pregnant with her… I forgot how much time I had when it was just the two of us around and no babies! My entire pregnancy, by the end of the day, after work and dinner and bedtime with my toddler I was way too exhausted to make anything.

So the baby came, and shortly thereafter we bought a new house and had to start packing and sell our house.. so my list of projects got Put on the back burner again.

Fast forward… baby is 9 months and we are in our new house and she needs things on her walls!

So I finally got around to making her a mobile.. probably a little late developmentally, but she still seems to enjoy it.

She has a really neat Aztec type print rug in her room already so I pulled out the colours from that. I knew I wanted to add flowers to make it more girly in her room.

Supplies:

  • gold medal hoop or embroidery hoop
  • Flowers (I used 2 bouquets from Michaels)
  • Lace or other decorative ribbons
  • Invisible thread
  • Hot glue gun

I started by removing the flowers from the stems and tying some invisible thread to them. I then glued the thread in place so it wouldn’t slide around later.

I knew I wanted to have the cream last wrapped around the rings and it had to be put on last to cover up all the ends.

So I glued the teal lace on first so I could hang it up while I tied the flowers on and see where they were placed visually. This is where it got tough to keep all the thread and flowers untangled from each other!

That’s the Chip mug I just got on our trip to Disneyworld!

All the tangles!

I tried to space the cream lace in between the flower threads to keep them separated and from tangling less. I got glued all the threads onto the ring, again to stop them from sliding. I glued some of the suede string also, for a more “boho” vibe… I had more at first but took them off. I’m not sure if they really fit in, I would have liked to do a braid with the suede string but I couldn’t think of how to finish them cleanly, so I wasn’t really sure what to do with it!

I then glued the cream ribbon around the ring, a little snug so it pulled in a bit.

I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. It looks pretty hanging up, and L. loves to try to grab the flowers and spin it around. I’m sure it will tangle pretty easily but oh well!

Has anyone else made a similar mobile? If you have any ideas about how I could incorporate a suede braid I would love to hear about it!

K.
